Who we are

Kathmandu Mental Health Clinic and Psychiatry Counseling Center is a psychiatry and counselling clinic in Kathmandu, Nepal. It was founded by Dr. Kushal Kharel, a consultant psychiatrist, and works with two other consultant psychiatrists, Dr. Sunita Lama and Dr. Bhishma K.C. We care for children, teenagers and adults with depression, anxiety, OCD, sleep problems, ADHD, addiction, bipolar disorder, memory concerns and more.

We are an outpatient clinic, not a hospital and not an emergency service. You can meet us in person at People's Plaza (New Road) and Kalanki Bhatbhateni, at home on request, or online by video from anywhere in the world, in Nepali or English.

Our doctors and how to check them

All three of our doctors are consultant psychiatrists registered with the Nepal Medical Council (NMC), hold an MD in Neuropsychiatry and provide cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). Their names, degrees and registration numbers are published on this website so that you can check them yourself:

How we write our guides

The guides and condition pages on this website are written by the clinic to answer questions that people in Nepal, and Nepalis abroad, actually ask. Our aim is to be plain, honest and useful:

• General information only. Pages explain conditions, treatments and how care works. They do not diagnose you and are not a substitute for a consultation.
• No guarantees. We do not promise cures or results, and we do not give medicine doses or recommend brand-name medicines online.
• No "best in Nepal" claims. There is no official ranking of psychiatrists or clinics, so we do not claim one. We show our doctors' qualifications and registration numbers and leave the choice to you.
• Independent sources. Most pages end with a "Further reading" list that links to the World Health Organization, the US National Institute of Mental Health, the UK National Health Service, the Nepal Medical Council and similar bodies, so you can read more and check what we say. These organisations did not write our pages and do not endorse us.
• Safety first. Every page shows Nepal's emergency numbers (Police 100, Ambulance 102, suicide prevention helpline 1166), and pages for Nepalis abroad show local emergency numbers.
• Two languages. Some guides are in Nepali. Nepali pages are written to be plain and clear, and we welcome corrections from readers.

Medical review

When a named doctor has reviewed a page, the page says "Medically reviewed by" with the doctor's name and the date at the top. If a page does not show this line, treat it as general information and speak to a doctor about your own situation. We add the line only after a real review, never before.

Corrections and feedback

If you find something unclear, out of date or wrong, please tell us on WhatsApp or by phone. We will check it and correct it. Every page shows the date it was last updated.

Privacy on this website

This website has no forms and does not ask for health information. If you call or message us on WhatsApp, your message goes to the clinic, and what you share about your health stays confidential. To understand how many people visit and which pages are useful, the site uses Google Analytics and Cloudflare Web Analytics. We use them for overall totals, such as which pages are read, and not to identify individual visitors.
